Here's my full email to GQ magazine on their article about SSgt Andreas Pogany. He was charged with Cowardice stemming from a refusal to go on a mission in September of last year. A charge that if convicted is punishable upon death. Since then the US ARMY has rescinded and dropped all charges on Mr. Pogany. His side of the story is in the August issue of GQ. Excerpts of my letter were printed in response in the September issue of GQ. They cut alot of good points that I had out, but you can read it in its enetirety here:

Subject: Coward.
Hey GQ,
Great magazine, I 'm definitely getting a 2 year subscription when I get back from Iraq in October. I'm currently stationed at Camp Baharia in Fallujah. Yeah, I know, the armpit of Iraq. I was here in Iraq last year too. My battalion, 2nd Battalion 1st Marines were the distraction force for Special Forces when they rescued Jessica Lynch last year in An Nasariyah. I was on the roof watching as Delta's helocopters flew overhead wondering who they were since I knew we didn't have any special ops helos in our MEU. I found out two weeks later what our purpose was for invading Nasariyah that night. SSGT or should I say "Sarge" Pogany had no reason to be in Iraq in the first place. He should have saved his unit's time and tax payers money by going to Canada and seeking asylum as a deserter before his flight. He knew he didn't want to go, and the first instant he knew he was going, I'm sure he thought of every excuse to get out of it. Going to Iraq with Special Forces meant having to leave his nice air conditioned Intel office at Fort Carson with CNN on TV all day long. Hell they didn't send him at the start of the war in March, why should they send him in late September? He was to used to being the "Support" guys that got all the free drinks at home while we were in Iraq or Afghanistan. I'll bet he wore his uniform all over the place back there in the states. Well guess what, Sarge, you joined the ARMY not the boy scouts. And you should know better that the Army deploys soldiers all over the world. Did you think you were gonna stay home forever? You should have been prepared to go after 9/11 and Operation Enduring Freedom. Your wife should have been ready to take over the bills then not two weeks before. My wife is only 22 but she has been taking care of my bills and expenses since we got married when she was 19. So that two weeks the Army gave you, should have been spent getting emotionally prepared. Your short "stint" with the Marine Corps should have taught you about Honor, Courage and Commitment. None of which you showed in your panic stricken 3 first days of war. Suck-it-the-FUCK-up, man. Your a grown ass man. Most of our line company grunts are fresh from High School. 18-19 year olds who signed on the dotted line the minute they graduated. I'm sure 99% of them were scared shitless when rounds started coming down range. The other 1% are just plain crazy. But they snapped out of it and went to work. Yeah we were all homesick, and tired and wasn't sure if we were coming home or not. That's "normal". So from all the lameass excuses like the crazy Dr. Suess soldier, to the 5 hours of playing the waiting game for a tow truck (Shit Happens), to the chopped up remains, to lack of sleep and sustenance to even Lariam, the malaria pills you took. Which was planted into your brain by a lawyer out to make a name and an excuse for a class action tort case. And you fell for it. You said you took 4 pills in 4 weeks. I'm no pharmacist, but I do know how small those pills were, I took them too, but i think you have to overdose on those to get any kind of reaction. Plus what kind of bullshit line is "You just take what they tell you to take". Well I know a buddy who has some courage pills for ya Sarge. You should be happy that the Army dropped all there charges against you. The world will forget about your "cowardice" charges in a year and you can move on. But here you are dragging it out even more for the sake of pride. Thanks GQ for reporting his side of the story. It just backs up the Army's case that this POGue is a coward. I know for a fact that if he was in the Marines when he went to Iraq, he'd still be there right now "police calling" our FOB and cleaning the Port-a-Shitters and yes, with no weapons, because he would pose a risk not only to himself, but everyone in the camp. The Army hooked him up with a plane ticket home. That is unheard of in my service unless its a life threatening condition or an immediate family trajedy. This guy should not even be allowed to wear any uniform on or off base. How many other cases of Cowardice have there been since his, none that I've heard of. Maybe he's just being picked on. That's it, they had it out for him all along. We have a saying in the Marine Corps for that. U.S.M.C.....U Signed the Motherfucking Contract.
Daily Dose
Yes people, just another minority talking shit about the the country he loves. But its cool though...I served my country in OIF 1&2 so I have every right to criticize my own government. Plus that's what Marines do best, we sit around on our off time talking shit about the current situation we're in. Its great therapy, and passes the time. But hey, you don't have to take my word for it.

Why I want more Bush! But will not Vote for him...
So this coming election, I will not be voting once again. I didn't vote during the Gore/Bush/chads extraordinaire because I was in boot camp at the time and missed all the hoopla. Thank you Jesus, for boot camp. This time aorund I have missed alot of the campaigning due to the fact that I've been in Fallujah since March and won't be back until October. But something tells me I didn't miss much since the candidates usually save their best low blows for October, so that it sinks in in November, right in time for the election. But no matter, I'm not gonna vote. Yes I know what most of you are saying, "shame", "what a waste" "part of the problem", blah-blah-FUCKING-blah. But you know what, the majority of the armed forces that are overseas will not be voting either, contary to what the government says about absentee ballots. I should know, I had to throw them out because they were collecting dust. Taxpayers money at work. The truth hurts, I know. But the reason I'm not voting is because I think Bush will win. And why put in the effort for a sure thing. Seriously, I think he will beat Kerry and all his celebrity endorsements, purple hearts and war promises. People just like convenience. Its what they have been used to for the last 4 years. That's why I want him to stay as prez. Why send in someone new not see results til 2006? The last 4 years wasn't really that bad were they? Yeah we haven't found any WMD, but wasn't Saddam technically a WMD himself? At least to the Kurds and to his own country, he was. And why not let Bush finish what he started? I'm sure he's determined to stay for 8 after 9/11. Good presidents were able to become great presidents because they served 8 years. I think Bush is a pretty good president. And I think that's good enough to beat Kerry. Sorry people, I know I don't have too much facts or stats to back up my claim but hey, I'm only a Marine. And I should have more reasons to hate Bush for sending me to this hellhole called I raq, but I really believe that we are doing something good here for the people of Iraq. I mean last year, after my Battallion bombed and invaded An Nasriyah as a distraction force for Special Forces to save Jessica Lynch, I saw the look on the Iraquis' faces and alot of them were glad that we went in. This was the morning after the invasion, there were hurt Iraquis hobbling around from their wounds and they were giving us the thumbs up as we drove by. I mean alot of views has changed from last year to this year but I really think we are making progress here. Its just that the Iraquis think we are miracle workers and can have clean running water and electricity to houses that never had electricity before in just a wave of a magic wand. The insurgenst hates the globalization of America and western lifestyle, but they go home after mortaring our base and sit and watch the tube just like us. They can have a beer while they're watching soccer games from their stolen satellite feed or watch a bootleg copy of the Collateral with Tom Cruise on DVD. They can do stuff now that they weren't able to do before under the Baathist party and Saddam. Cell phones, Cable TVs, alcohol, gambling. Yeah alot of vices but hey, what's wrong with free will? The more they get a taste of our culture the more they want it for themselves. Its not about our occupation of Saudi Arabia or of us helping supply arms to the Israelis...its just about jealous and envy. They want what we have but are too damn proud to ask for it. So they resort to taking it in the name of ALLAH. Yeah I said it. Its a holy war they claim but is it really? Or is it just that we have it so good in America that they want to stop all the gluttony and narcissism? Do they not know that we have ghettos and starving people too. We have crime, pollution, and not to base our country on what they see in the movies. We help more countries than we destroy but yet they are too ignorant to realize that. That's why I think it will take Iraq 10 years to get caught up to the 21st centrury. And Bush is the only man right now who can get them up to par in that time span. I mean Time is money right taxpayers? So why let someone take over and waste more time setting up his proposals and plans and fire this person and change that. We'll give Kerry a chance in 2008. Things can't really get any better with him now. Convenience people. It sells.
